When I first reported the problem, bootstrap failed with 

make bootstrap STAGE1_CFLAGS='-O2'

I started a new bootstrap a few hours ago with just "make bootstrap" and it
failed with

stage2/xgcc -Bstage2/ -B/usr/local/sparc-sun-solaris2.8/bin/ -c   -g -O2
-DIN_GCC   -W -Wall -Wwrite-strings -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes
-pedantic -Wno-long-long -Wold-style-definition -Werror -fno-common  
-DHAVE_CONFIG_H    -I. -I. -I../../gcc -I../../gcc/. -I../../gcc/../include
-I../intl \
        ../../gcc/config/sparc/sparc.c -o sparc.o
../../gcc/config/sparc/sparc.c: In function `sparc_rtx_costs':

../../gcc/config/sparc/sparc.c:8968: internal compiler error: Segmentation Fault
