I'm not empowered by bugzilla at my current address so here's what I
think we should do:

a) this works as he expects at -O3
b) the "problem" shows up in current sources, however, i'll point to a)
here.
c) this is almost completely something for the loop unroller people to
look at. If one of them wants to comment then that's cool, otherwise I
think we can just close it.
