Can you provide the output of `gcj -v' as I cannot reproduce it on the mainline 
(20030714):
xenon:~/src/gnu/gcctest>gcj SocketServerBindProblem.java --main=
SocketServerBindProblem
xenon:~/src/gnu/gcctest>./a.out
Test succeded. Exception thrown
