Bug: variable memory allocation in gcc3

Hi Andrew!

Thanks for the quick reply! I already found it strange that none of the 
people I
asked about the (apparently trivial) bug could explain it... I guess I just 
asked
the wrong people :-)

I hope I didn't bother you too much, now that I see that my post was 
redundant.
