Do you know what the default stacksize on cygwin is?
I think if you increase the stacksize to 10M or higher you might get passed the first stage.
Can one of you two try it?
I know on powerpc-apple-darwin6.6 I have to increase the stacksize to 8M from 1/2M (the 
too low default).
