If you compile this with -O1, it will compile. This is a dup of bug 8440. In 3.3.1, GCC no longer
ICEs but prints out an error message:
pr11850.c: In function `readPortByte':
pr11850.c:7: error: impossible constraint in `asm'
*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 8440 ***
