I cannot reproduce this with glibc2.3.1, but perhaps it can have
to do with your:

At the time, did you test it on a glibc2.2 platform too? Anyway,
even that case, I don't think isspace is sufficiently tested for
in the testsuite.

Could you possible look at it a bit?
