    I can reproduce your problem if I compile your testcase
    with:
    g++ -O3 -c classFileParser.ii
    
    
    
    gcc 3.1 20020315 (prerelease) compiles the code without
    crashing.  There are lots of warnings on the code though:
    
    /home/brefort/installs/jdk-src/hotspot1.3.1/src/share/vm/runtime/threadLocalEden.hpp:113: warning: invalid
       offsetof from non-POD type `class ThreadLocalEden'; use pointer to
    member
       instead
