UPDATE Re: bootstrap failure of 3.0.3 on aix4.3.3

I found out the failure mode below seems to be a result of using
the gnu assembler with gcc.  I've always been able to build gcc
 with the gnu assembler on AIX in the past, so it looks like that
is currently not working?

After successfully building and installing gcc 3.0.3 on aix 4.3,
I encountered another error.

<pdxfs32 288> /tmp # g++ hello.C -bloadmap -lpthreads -L/usr/intel/pkgs/gcc/3.0.3/lib -lstdc++ -o hello
g++: installation problem, cannot exec `cc1plus': A file or directory in the path name does not exist.

A grep shows me that the symbol '_S_max_size' does seem to exist in
libstdc++, so I'm a bit puzzled on this one.  Also, the output from
using -bloadmap and -bnoquiet doesn't make sense.  I made sure cc1plus
does exist in gcc's private bin area, and it is in face executable.

Any ideas?
