Synopsis: insanely long compilation times on simple C files

State-Changed-Why:
    What flags did you use to compile this file? I played around
    a little bit, but could not reproduce the problem. But then
    I am on a linux box, and am using a 3.3 snapshot from 
    Dec 13th.
