Installing pre gcc-2.96 for ATLAS

Hi,
I want to install ATLAS.As it can be wll handled with
pre gcc-2.96 version, I want to install gcc-2.95-3
I am using the machine having

mandrake8.2 Linux 2.4.18-6mdk #1 i686 unknown

when running
	../configure --prefixes=/home/bhabani/gcc/local

Then after checking some step it become dead.I mean the following
texts on the screen
...	...	...	...	...	...
...	...	...	...	...	...
...	...	...	...	...	...
checking how to run the C preprocessor... (cached) gcc -E
checking whether gcc needs -traditional... no
checking for a BSD compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking for ranlib... (cached) ranlib
checking for texconfig... true

I have attached the total output(as probha file)of whatever viewed on the
screen.Above lines after ... ... are the last part of attached file.
particularly on the line named 

	'checking for texconfig... true'

installation become dead.I have also tried to install
gcc-2.95-1.Result became same.In that particular checking
message line on the scrren it shows the problem.

	I will greatly appreciate,if any one can
	help me for my problem.
