c++/6179: EH regression test failure for STLport-4.5.3

Hi,

First attempt to isolate the bug is attached and no longer depends on
STLport-4.5.3 libraries. This is a gcc-3.1 regression from gcc-3.0.4 and
even shows up at -O0 level.
