Sun Solaris 8 SPARC on ULTRA 5

Attempting to compile sample drivers from SUN.  GCC 3.01 produces the .S file fine however when it attempts to Assemble it gives unknown opcodes .subsection and .previous

These two opcodes cannot be compiled with the Sun version of AS.
