Bootstrap problem on IA64

When I try to bootstrap the 20011007 version I get the following
messages on IA64:

checking for thread model used by GCC...
/data/tools/gcc-20011007/libstdc++-v3/configure: test: !=: unary
operator expected
checking for exception model to use... configure: error: unable to
detect exception model
make[1]: *** [configure-target-libstdc++-v3] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/data/tools/build-20011007'
make: *** [bootstrap] Error 2

Is this a known issue ? What is the reason for this ?
