bug report in gcc 2.96

Hello

I'm Nino Bozzi, and when I try to compile including math.h, gcc crashes.

_Version: 
    2.96 20000731
_System :       Red Hat Linux 7.1 2.96-85
_Trigger command line:  gcc 4_6.c -o 4_6
_Compiler output:   /tmp/ccv2V8Lu.o: In function `main':
            /tmp/ccv2V8Lu.o(.text+0x65): undefined reference            to `pow'
            collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
_preproccessed file:    attached to mail, so is the c file too (very                    simple)

the configuration is the default, because is from an rpm package from RH7.1

please make me know if isn't a bug, in other compilers did work 
perfectly (ie. turbo c++).
