The problem is a buggy dejagnu or expect - if you look at the logs you'll
find the error messages towards the end of the diagnostic output are
getting truncated.  The patch you give is irrelvant to the problem; in
each case, the regexp is simply "format" and the second string is only
used by dejagnu to inform the testsuite user.

but I don't know if anyone has tracked this problem down yet.  The format
tests are simply good at triggering this bug because of the length of
warning output tested in a single testcase; the problem tends to be
intermittent for those who observe it.
