I believe I have made the problem go away by applying the
following Sun patches:

105181-26, 105210-38, 106429-02, 107733-09.

If I had to guess which one was the root of it, I would guess
107733-09, as I applied the other three first and they didn't
seem to help.  However, it is possible that all four may be
necessary -- I didn't try just the fourth one.

Might I suggest that you say something about this under the
host/target specific installation notes?
