Richard Henderson <rth@redhat.com> has already suggested a `fix' by
using binutils-2.11.2, `gas' of which will handle this construct, or
sco5 native `as'. I did the first, and the `bug' does not trouble me
even in 3.0.0. So I already consider bootstrap/3460 closed.
If newer `gcc' should recognize that `as' chokes on this construct and
configure itself not to emit it, I can not verify this since I no
longer have old binutils with such an `as'.
According to Richard Henderson, the new asm construct means fewer
dynamic relocations in shared libraries, so if new `gcc' inhibits
emitting it unconditionally, I object.
