    I'm finally getting a chance to play with this.  (Note that
    any future "patches" sent as simply a new copy of the entire
    file will be rejected outright; please see the URL I
    mentioned.)
    
    This change will not happen in the 3.0.x series, but should
    go in for 3.1.
