Sometimes you don't see the obvious... Of course I can provide a test 
file that produces the undefined references. Compiling the attached file I get

ritzert@darkstar:~ > nm -C IFR3_impl.o | grep 
'thunk.*PortableServer::ServantBase::_non_existent'
         U non-virtual thunk to PortableServer::ServantBase::_non_existent()
