Richard and Zack,

I get a bootstrap failure with current CVS:
ee:/cvs/gcc:[0]$ cat LAST_UPDATED
Wed Aug 22 11:37:17 CEST 2001
Wed Aug 22 09:37:17 UTC 2001

The bug is:

stage1/xgcc -Bstage1/ -B/opt/gcc-3.1-devel/i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ -c  -DIN_GCC    -g -O2 -W -Wall -Wwrite-strings -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes -Wtraditional -pedantic -Wno-long-long  -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -DGENERATOR_FILE    -I. -I. -I/cvs/gcc/gcc -I/cvs/gcc/gcc/. -I/cvs/gcc/gcc/config -I/cvs/gcc/gcc/../include /cvs/gcc/gcc/gengenrtl.c
/cvs/gcc/gcc/gengenrtl.c: In function `type_from_format':

this worked 4 hours ago, so one of your patches seems to be broken.

I'm bootstrapping on i686-linux-gnu with recent binutils and glibc
2.2.2 and run configure as:
/cvs/gcc/configure --prefix=/opt/gcc-3.1-devel --enable-shared \
         --enable-threads=posix  --enable-clocale=gnu  \
         --with-gnu-as --with-gnu-ld --disable-nls --with-system-zlib \
         --enable-languages=c,objc,c++,f77,java
