Hi,
I attach configure and bootstrap logs from a mainline CVS tree taken
at about 9am GMT 3 april

Here's the relevant tail of the bootstrap log,

make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/nathan/egcs/devel/i686-pc-linux-gnu/gcc'
Configuring in i686-pc-linux-gnu/libstdc++-v3
creating cache ../config.cache
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
[snip]
checking for GNU make... make
checking for g++ that will successfully compile libstdc++-v3... configure: error: please upgrade to GCC 3.0 or above
make[1]: *** [configure-target-libstdc++-v3] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/nathan/egcs/devel/i686-pc-linux-gnu'

huh? I'm bootstrapping the compiler - it should find itself.
