Bug Report: Illegal Instruction

I do not consider myself a buffer-knowledgable person, but I don't
think its a buffer overflow problem.

A bit before the error, my code does an "endl" and the previous line
is put out to the screen; I think this would clear the buffer.  The
very next output is a "cout << temp;" where "temp" is a three
character string.  The error occurs when I finally output the first
space in a for-loop (i.e., "cout << " ";); the for-loop prints at most
10 spaces.
