x86 C compiler problem 2.95.2 (latest snapshot may be ok)

Here's another result

$ gcc -v -O2 via-rhine.2.3.99.i

Inspecting the assembly output shows the problem here to be that
gcc-2.95.2-20000220 gets the loop count wrong.
