Bug and My System Information

I am running Windows 98. I have 64 MB RAM. 12 GIG HD space. CPU is an AMD 
K6-III 400MHz with 3DNow!

What's weird  is the hello example won't run: 
DOS window labeled  C:\Windows\Command.com says
General failure reading device LP!!?
Abort, Retry, Fail 

Dev C++ froze though, and had to be shut down with END TASK.

It seems trying to compile anything makes it freeze.
