--enable-checking bootstrap error in libgcc2.c on i686-gnu-linux

I'm trying to build the latest CVS version of the compiler (2000-12-24).
While trying to build _muldi3, it blows up.

 libgcc2.c:401: RTL check: expected elt 3 type 'e' or 'u', have '0' (rtx note)
 libgcc2.c:401: ICE in 'returnjump_p' at jump.c:3757
 
This is with 
../gcc/configure --enable-checking --prefix=/home/dvdeug/bin/gcc-cvs
on i686-gnu-linux, Debian GNU/Linux Woody (most recent unstable).
