Thanks for your bug report. gcc-2.95.2 says

bug.cpp: In instantiation of `pointer<int>':
bug.cpp:65:   instantiated from here
bug.cpp:29: invalid use of undefined type `class pointer<int>'
bug.cpp:47: forward declaration of `class pointer<int>'

without crashing or consuming all memory, so it appears that the bug
has been fixed; I recommend to upgrade.
