Error: `%di' not allowed with `addb' with current GCC 2.96 CVS

Compiling glibc 2.2 with GCC 2.96 20000122 I get:
{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:491: Error: `%di' not allowed with `addb'

Line 491 is:
$ grep -n addb fts.s
491:    addb    %di, %di

Sorry, I couldn't come up with a short test example - besides
recompiling the CVS version of glibc 2.2 with the CVS version of GCC
on i686.;-)
