Bug compiling ddd (data debugger)

I have installed gcc 2.95.2 under aplhaev6-dec-osf4.0f (following INSTALL
instructions using native compiler to create stage1 and then xgcc to
recompile rest)

When compiling data debugger package ddd-3.1-6 compiler crashes in function
HelpCB.C with error message

HelpCB.C: In function 'void PopupTip(void *, XtIntervalId *)':
HelpCB.C:2148: Internal compiler error in 'scan_region', at except.c:2566

I have done this on 2 m/cs, one runningOSF4.0d and one running 4.0f.
