GCC/EGCS bug: -c with -shared

The use of the `-c' option with gcc/egcs conflicts with `-shared'. That is,
if both -c and -shared are specified on the command line, -shared is ignored.
The result is a regular static object file, rather than an shared object.
This is under Linux x86 (Red Hat) using the latest egcs from the CVS
tree (2000-02-14). The bug also appears in gcc 2.7.2.3.
One could argue that -c overrides -shared, however, this is not specified
in the documentation and no warning is given if both options are specified
simultaneously. At the very least it should be an error to specify both
options at once, or, that -shared overrides -c.
