problem in compiling c files

hello ,
        i have sent a problem to the following address before 36 hours.
        help-gcc@gnu.org
        but so far i have not got a concrete answer. So only i am
contacting u.

my problem is:

                    I have used the GNU c compiler (version 2.8.0) to
give warnings
     when the source statements contains divide operator(The input file
     being used is .c file). This thing works perfectly with win 95 or
     win 98. But for windows NT if the input .c file length is greater
than 8
     characters it says "No such file or directory" . Eight characters
     means excluding the file extension part (dot c ).
     In windows 95 or windows 98 this error does'nt occur.
     Actually i am operating from command prompt(MS-DOS ) under win95 or

     win 98 or winNT envionment  .
     Please send me the solution ASAP for how to compile  dot c files
     (using gcc.exe) with more than 8 characters in windows NT
     environment.

 2. No command line argument is used
 3. operating system - windows NT version 4.0
 4. formating - FAT or NTFS(BOTH cases USED)
