gcc is much improved

I used g++ about five years ago when C++ features were first being
deployed.  It was OK, except that hardly anything fancy worked.  In
particular, templates were a dark abyss where few dared to tread.  Wow,
how things have changed!  G++ basically works now, as documented in the
various standards.  Amazing.
