Optimization bug on Redhat Linux 5.1 with gcc 2.7.2.3

gcc 2.7.2.3 is a really outdated version, only needed on Linux platforms to
compile kernels older then 2.2.0. As such it won't get any maintenance.

I'd recommend to upgrade to the latest released version of gcc, 2.95.2 .
