egcs-19990920 build error

I tried to use SUNs compiler to build egcs-19990920 on
sparc-sun-solaris2.7, but got the following error:

  "../../gcc/protoize.c", line 620: cannot do pointer arithmetic on operand of unknown size
  "../../gcc/protoize.c", line 649: cannot do pointer arithmetic on operand of unknown size

(First I tried to use gcc, and got a core dump from xgcc; I will
send a separate bug report on that.)
