  Got new version of compiler and you are right. Complex works much
  better. Unfortunately something else must have been broken. On 
  average my code now runs 1.7 longer than it did with old version
  of compiler. Is there anything new that I should know of or is the
  new version simply not Alpha ready? (New compiler did not show the
  same effect in Intel, Sparc or HP. A little slower, but not really
  anything to get excited about.)
