Hello-

Figured to forward this to you to verify that the problem is w/ egcs. I'm running
a stock version of egcs v1.1.1 (release) under linux v2.2.3, i686 platform. Also
running glibc v2.1 (release).

Compilation options to egcs were:

---------------
#!/bin/sh
# This file was generated automatically by configure. Do not edit.
# This directory was configured as follows:
../configure --with-gcc-version-trigger=/usr/src/egcs-1.1.1/gcc/version.c --host=i686-pc-linux-gnu --prefix=/usr --enable-threads --norecursion
#  using "mt-frag"
----------------

I tried to get the preproccessed output for this file but am having some trouble. If you still
need it let me know and will try hacking the makefiles some more to get it.
