problems compiling egcs-1.1.1

Except for the testsuite, egcs won't try to arrange by itself that
programs linked with a shared libstdc++ will be able to find it.  You
should set LD_RUN_PATH when you link the program or LD_LIBRARY_PATH
when you run it, or add /usr/local2/lib to the standard shared library 
path (if such a thing exists on DU4) or create links to the installed
libstdc++.so in /usr/lib.

> sh: .deps/getopt.P: cannot create

You'll probably be able to work-around this problem by creating the
.deps directory within the directory that should contain getopt.o
(texinfo/lib, in the build tree, I think).  This problem is fixed in
the development tree.
