asm conflict between recent egcs snapshots and libc-2.0.7

It's good to hear that it is fixed in 2.1.  My installation of
2.0.7 is provided by the Debian dpkg packages (the most recent
version, I believe), and the egcs used is the most recent
snapshot, installed by 'make install' with default vanilla
configuration.  Did you mean that there was something wrong
with the way these packages are installed, or just that 2.1
does it differently?
