You are absolutely right (I looked at 9.5.3 REWIND statement, which  
fails to mention this).

In other words, it's a genuine bug.  It also produces the wrong  
results on my m68k-next-nextstep3 system, so it is not related to  
you using Linux.

We'll look into it.
