Bug (or mis-feature) in g77 sequential file format

Right.  That's a recommendation in the current CVS version of the g77
manual.  I tried to address this whole issue there, but perhaps not
very well.  Any suggestions for improvement would be welcome.  (Not
only for that section, of course!)
