egcs build failure on hpux --with-gnu-as and vendor cc

On hppa1.1-hp-hpux10.20, If you use the vendor CC to build egcs after using
it to build binutils, so that you may use --with-gnu-as to build egcs (and
have -g work) make bootstrap will fail to link gcc with an 'unsatisified
symbol' of alloc().

I've seen this with the following combinations (in all cases, using the
vendor cc to get everything off the ground)
binutils-2.8.1 w/ egcs1.0.3a
binutils-2.9.1 w/ egcs1.1b

I'm currently trying using my non --with-gnu-as built egcs to build egcs
again --with-gnu-as to see if it makes a difference.
