Looks like both of your problems are related with the PowerPC port, as 
I can't reproduce them in other platforms, and I don't have access to
a PowerPC :-(

Since you're using an old release of egcs (1.0.2), first thing I
suggest to you is to upgrade to release 1.1 and try again.  If it
fails again, please submit a new report.

Next time, please try again with a more portable format, such as
uuencode or base64.  Not everybody has mac-binhex decoders; I knew I
did and spent a lot of time looking for it! :-)
