Hi
There are still Problems while installing egcs-19981019
on powerpc-ibm-aix4.2.1.0.
1.) There is still the problem with finding install-sh
in libobjc. Should be fixed the same way as for libf2c.
2.) libobjc still doesn't configure because the thread file
isn't defined in gcc/objc/Makefile:
...gcs-19981019 $ make CC=xlc CFLAGS='-g -O3' LANGUAGES='c c++' bootstrap
[...]
checking for ANSI C header files... yes
checking for thread file... configure: error: not found
make[1]: *** [Makefile] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `.../powerpc-ibm-aix4.2.1.0/libobjc'
make: *** [all-target-libobjc] Error 2
I have no idea why this isn't defined in the Makefile. It is
mentioned somewhere that AIX worked some time ago.
3.) Minor nitpick: The CFLAGS are passed to xlc while it compiles makeinfo
and the other stuff before it gets to bootstrap gcc. Now, xlc doesn't
like -O3 particularly well, it says
xlc: 1501-216 command option 3 is not recognized - passed to ld
(funnily, even if ld is never invoked)
However, I'd like to pass O3 in order to have inlined functions, just for fun
(and to stress the compiler). Is there a way to set different CFLAGS for the
bootstrapping compiler?
Well then, should i consider myself the official beta-tester for egcs on AIX?
