egcs 1.1b on sparc-sun-solaris 2.5.1

this is with egcs 1.1b (all):
1. firstly, i tried:
$ ../egcs-1.1b/configure --prefix=/projects/macho/wpc-test/egcs
$ make -j bootstrap
our machine has 8 processors so i thought this might speed it up.  and it
does, for a while until (the last few lines):

unfortunately, i didn't save the output to file.  i can retry it if you'd
like the full output.

2. then to see if it was just the make -j, i continued (without starting
again), with just a plain:
$ make bootstrap
which seemed to work.

i am currently testing with --enable-shared and --enable-threads.  more to
come on that.
