various egcs versions break libtool

Hi!

As libtool maintainer, I'm having problems keeping up with the changes
that have been made from gcc2 to egcs.

I've received a number of bug reports that libtool doesn't work on
platforms where egcs (at least 1.03, and 2.91.09) has been installed.
I think the source of these problems is the collect2 program which is
distributed with egcs.

Could somebody who is knowledgeable in collect2 matters, especially
the differences between gcc2 collect2 and egcs collect2, please step
forward?  I'm not sure where to begin tracking down these problems,
because I have very little understanding of the issues.

I think the best I can do is to send such a person the output from
commands that worked fine under gcc2, and then see if they have any
theories.
