It didn't cause an ICE, but just today I debugged some code of one of
my students only to find yet another problem with implicit typenames. 

Indeed the code works fine with egcs-1.0.3a and older snapshots but
not with egcs-threedaysold and egcs-current. I'll try to destill a
minimal testcase...
