Can't bootstrap egcs egcs-2.91.40 19980612

I didn't manage to bootstrap the current egcs (as of 19:00 GMT,
98-06-12) on i486-pc-linux-gnu (Linux 2.1.105 with glibc 2.1 snapshot
on i486).

During make bootstrap I get the following error:

I've tried bootstrapping with a clean build directory and with gcc
2.7.2.3 and also egcs-2.91.35 19980608.

(configure line was: ../egcs-cvs/configure --host=i486-pc-linux-gnu \
 --prefix=/opt/egcs --enable-shared --enable-threads --with-gnu-as \
 --with-gnu-ld).
