This file:

ftp://monet.uwaterloo.ca/pub/todd/dwarf2out-bug.cpp

causes an internal compiler error with the 19980608 snapshot of egcs
under IRIX 6.5 when using -g:

bash$ g++ -g -c dwarf2out-bug.cpp
dwarf2out.c:7633: Internal compiler error in function scope_die_for

When -g is omitted, no problem. The same problem occurs for several
other files in the blitz testsuite (blitz-19980610).

I checked to see if the problem also occurs for a i686-linux,
and it doesn't. My wild guess is that it's a code generator
problem; the spot which fails in dwarf2out.c is:

7631          if (debug_info_level > DINFO_LEVEL_TERSE
7632              && !TREE_ASM_WRITTEN (containing_scope))
7633            abort ();

For some reason, TREE_ASM_WRITTEN(containing_scope) is false
when it should be true.

bash$ g++ -v
