I really don't know.  When I want to bootstrap with something other
than gcc, I usually rearrange my path in an appropriate manner so
that gcc is not found at all and whatever version of the HP compiler
I want is found.

That's been the best way for me to manage having a half dozen versions
of gcc, and at least two compilers from HP on my hpux boxes.
