installation problem, cannot exec `#C++collect2'

Hi,

this seems to be a new bug, egcs was freshly updated 09.30 CEST and
bootstrapped in an empty dir with gcc-2.7.2:

[root@linuxpc1:/usr/src/cvs/obj/i386_cvs/libio]#
/usr/src/cvs/obj/i386_cvs/gcc/xgcc -B/usr/src/cvs/obj/i386_cvs/gcc/ dummy.C 
xgcc: dummy.C: C++ compiler not installed on this system
xgcc: installation problem, cannot exec `#C++collect2': No such file or
directory

System is a Redhat4.2, egcs was configured with:
../../egcs/configure --enable-shared --disable-multilib --with-gnu-as
--with-gnu-ld
and resulted in i586-pc-linux-gnulibc1
binutils is 2.9.1.0.6
